De Waag in Amsterdam

Under the influence of sunlight, temperature and groundwater level  the "De Waag" Unesco monument changes shape every 12 hours. During the coldest part of the day (around 06:00 am) en the hottest part of the day (around 12:00 pm) the "De Waag" bends.

Besides this daily heartbeat, the "De Waag" deforms over longer periods of time under the influence of seasons. The shape of the building in the summer is different in the winter.

The animation below shows the deformation of the walls with respect to each other. The animation shows the real deformation between 1st August 2012 and 1st December 2012. Too illustrate the deformation more clearly the effect is amplified 1000 times.  The places where red parts appear in the blue lines cracks are formed in the monument.
